Bridal separates are the most cost-effective way to get multiple looks on your wedding day without having to buy multiple dresses. And that’s the number one reason why I decided to launch The Real Bride with a bridal set rather than a bridal gown.
The average wedding dress in the US costs about $2,100, according to The Knot's 2026 Real Weddings Study. That figure doesn’t even include alterations, accessories, or a second look.
So when I sat down to design the first look The Real Bride would ever sell, I wasn't only thinking about fashion. I was also thinking about what bridal wear actually costs a real bride, and how to give her more options for less.
That’s how we launched with Evangeline: a corset, skirt, and removable sleeve set that work together or apart.
But versatility is just one of the benefits of bridal separates. Here are four more reasons why we love them:
1) Reduces the need for customizations
Many brides will find an almost perfect dress that just needs a tweak or two to make it feel more like them. These tweaks, like changing the skirt shape or adding sleeves, usually require additional customization or tailoring costs that can run into the hundreds or even thousands of dollars.
But with bridal separates, those tweaks are much easier to make, and usually cheaper. Don't love the skirt paired with the corset top? Buy a different skirt. Want something more dramatic on your arms? Purchase removable sleeves. You're not bound by what the designer offers or what a tailor can do.
